For many small businesses, the subject of social media can feel a bit daunting. At Healy Marketing, we get it. Regardless of where you are with your content and planning, one area where you can make an immediate impact is a strategic Instagram Bio. You can even think of it as the “sign” you hang on your business online.
Here a few key tips to keep in mind when writing your Instagram bio:
Let’s start with the basics...Name and Location
Your bio should clearly state your business name and location. Many accounts use the pin drop emoji to show where they’re located without wasting precious characters! Another option is to reference your location in a way that locals know and love, like RI Monthly does in their bio with #401 love.
Short and Sweet
Instagram gives you very few characters to work with inside your bio, so it’s important to maximize them by talking to your ideal client and explaining what problems you help them solve. Remember to speak to your niche clearly - without getting too verbose.
Link Love
Since the Instagram platform doesn’t allow you to link to any content inside a post or a story (unless you have a large following) - the link capability in your bio is precious and valuable. There are a lot of wonderful platforms that are relatively easy to use that will allow you to link to multiple items if this is necessary for you (it won’t be for everyone!). This feature can be very helpful to direct potential buyers to different areas on a website or sales page. LinkTree and LinkInBio are two options that are worth looking into based on your needs.
Enabling the ‘Contact’ button
If you want to give potential customers a chance to get in touch quickly and easily from your bio, it’s always smart to enable your contact page with an email or phone number. And remember to use an email address that actually gets checked regularly so you can provide great customer service and follow up. This is an easy way to inbound new clients and partnerships, in addition to direct messages!
